1. Introduction
MuzMarket.com ("MuzMarket", "we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy and personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use our website at muzmarket.com, our mobile applications, and related services (collectively, "the Platform"). The Platform covers both products (sold by independent vendors) and services (booked with independent providers).
By using MuzMarket, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable data protection laws.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide
Account details: name, email address, phone number, and password.
Profile information: delivery addresses, preferences, communication settings, language.
Transaction data: purchase history, order information, and (for vendors) payout details.
Payment processor (Stripe): confirmation that a payment succeeded or failed; the last four digits of the card; the issuing country. We never receive your full card number.
Authentication providers (Google sign-in, where used): name, email, and a stable user identifier so we can authenticate you without storing a password.
Certification bodies: when we verify a vendor's halal certificate with the issuing authority, we receive confirmation of validity and scope.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
Process and fulfil your orders and bookings, including payment authorisation and capture.
Verify vendor identity, halal certification, insurance, and other onboarding requirements.
Create and manage your account, and provide customer support through email and our self-hosted help desk (FreeScout).
Personalise your shopping and booking experience with relevant recommendations.
Communicate with you about orders, bookings, reminders, promotions, and platform updates.
Prevent fraud, enforce our Terms, and maintain platform safety for buyers and providers alike.
Analyse aggregated and anonymised usage patterns to improve our services.
Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from regulators.
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information with:
Vendors and service providers: only what they need to fulfil your order or booking — name, delivery address (or service address), order/booking details, and contact handle for messaging. We do not share your payment details.
Payment processor: Stripe Payments UK Limited and its Stripe Connect/Express infrastructure, which handles all card processing and seller payouts.
Shipping carriers: delivery address and contact details when a vendor ships an order.
Support and infrastructure providers: FreeScout (our self-hosted support help desk), our hosting provider, and database backup services — all bound by data processing agreements.
Analytics providers: anonymised or aggregated usage data only.
Legal authorities: when required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights and the safety of users.
5. Cookies & Tracking
MuzMarket uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your bag and bookings, and understand how the Platform is used. We use:
Essential cookies: required for the Platform to function (sign-in sessions, shopping bag, CSRF protection).
Performance cookies: help us understand how visitors use the Platform.
Functional cookies: remember your preferences (language, region, recently viewed).
Marketing cookies: only set with your explicit consent via the cookie banner.
You can manage cookie preferences from the cookie banner or in your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies will prevent the Platform from functioning. See our full Cookie Policy.
6. Data Security
We take the security of your personal data seriously and implement industry-standard measures to protect it:
TLS 1.2+ encryption for all data in transit.
PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant payment processing via Stripe — we never see or store full card details.
Regular security review of our infrastructure and dependencies.
Access controls and staff data-handling training.
Encrypted backups of customer data.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Right to access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Right to rectification: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
Right to erasure: request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to legal record-keeping obligations.
Right to portability: request your data in a machine-readable format.
Right to object: object to processing of your data for marketing purposes.
Right to restrict processing: request limitation of how we use your data.
To exercise any of these rights, contact our Data Protection Officer at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK.
8. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Account data: for the duration of your account plus 3 years after closure.
Order and booking records: 7 years (financial regulation requirement in the UK).
Support messages: 2 years.
Marketing preferences: until you withdraw consent.
9. Children's Privacy
MuzMarket is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from someone under 18, we will delete it promptly.
10. International Data Transfers
MuzMarket is operated from the United Kingdom but some of our service providers operate elsewhere (notably Stripe, which uses global infrastructure). Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards including the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA), UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), and equivalent mechanisms.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by email and through a notice on the Platform. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows the most recent change.
